Still Crazy After All These Years

You can write. Or you can not. Either way, you are working on something. You just might not know what it is yet.

This handsome boy is Bix. Bix is 13 and he is much grayer and skinnier than he is in this photo, from when he was a sprightly 10.
For those that don’t know, 13 is very, very old for a dog - let alone a dog of Bix’s size. These days, Bix’s back legs are at about 25% capacity at best. He’s a little senile. He’s nearly blind. He’s losing his hearing. This is heartbreaking - I know. Believe me, I know. But Bix is still happy. He still wants to be alive. He still cuddles with Humphrey, wags his tail when he recognizes you, barks at exactly 8am, 1pm, and 6:30pm for his meals. He still wants to walk around the Great Lawn, even if his legs can’t do the distance these days.
We are all more than willing to do the work it takes to keep Bix healthy & happy these days. And believe me, there’s a lot of work. Bix can’t always stand up on his own, and sometimes, the effort of getting up causes him to have an accident. It’s okay. We are his 24-hour clean-up crew.
BUT GODDAMMIT I JUST STEPPED - BAREFOOT - IN A PILE OF COLD, MUSHY DOG POOP AND THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT’S HAPPENED AND I JUST NEED TO HAVE A TEENY LITTLE BREAKDOWN FOR A SECOND.
Thanks.

Bix is very lucky to have so much love and care around him. This is very good prep for you to be a mommy, just so’s ya know.
